They gave Joanne, my best friend, Carrie's Mom, one year to live when we were in grade five. Their world was turned upside down, making preparations for her to die. Joanne fought and managed to live with leukemia for another 11 years or so, getting to meet her granddaughter, Ashley and spend four years with her...she was incredibly brave and couragous and lived through incredible hell, beating the year prognosis and defying the odds.
